A basic belief in the Children's Services program is that the corrective and healing experiences that we provide for the child are an outcome of the child's interaction with all the significant others in his or her environment.

In order to bring to fruition this professional model, an extensive program of staff workshops and special training is made available on all levels of staffing.

Special emphasis is given to inservice training for our foster parents and rehabilitation workers.

Inservice training focuses on a wide range of topics.

Child development
Behavior management
Non-aggressive physical control
Problem solving
Teaching interactions
Dealing with grief and loss
Substance abuse
Child abuse and neglect
Health and safety
Team building

......... and many other topics needed for providing corrective, emotional and interpersonal experiences for the child.

Client Population
Our program serves children with emotional and behavioral disturbances who are in need of an out-of-home living situation. We are especially interested in working with children who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, a succession of unsuccessful placements.

Intake Process
CHCS serves children and families without regard to race or ethnic background, creed, disability, and/or sexual preference.

Family Preservation
Children's Services also provides services to maintain family integrity and prevent out-of-home placement. Our aim is to build on a child and family's strengths through supportive intervention, and to foster reunification.

Costs
Childrens' Services are intensive, more normalized, and individualized, than most hospitals and residential programs for children with emotional and behavioral disturbances. Yet, we are more cost effective. For current information on the costs of Children's Services, please contact the Intake Coordinator at the office nearest you.
