Adult Group Homes

A Variety of Facilities in the Bangor and Ellsworth Areas

The adult residential treatment facilities provide a safe, supportive environment for adults with chronic mental illness.  All of these facilities offer 24-hour staffing, three offer 24-hour awake staffing, the other two have asleep overnight staffing.

  • Grove Street Group Home is a four bed, multi-level group home located in Bangor. Serves both adult men and women. This facility has asleep overnight staffing.
  • Ellsworth Group Home is a four bed, multi-level group home located in the outskirts of Ellsworth. Serves both adult men and women. This facility has asleep overnight staffing.
  • Fieldstone Drive Group Home is a six bed, handicapped accessible group home located in Bangor. Serves both adult men and women. This facility has 24-hour awake staffing.
  • Husson Hollow Group Home is an eight bed, multi-level group home located in Bangor. Serves both adult men and women. This facility has 24-hour awake staffing.
  • Meadowview Group Home is an eight bed, handicapped accessible group home located near the University of Maine in Orono. Meadowview serves both adult men and women. This facility is supervised by an RN and has CNAs on staff, therefore has the ability to house those with medical conditions that may need staff oversight.

Each resident participates in their treatment by setting goals and working to achieve those goals.  CHCS Adult, Child and Family Services’ residential treatment facilities operate with the premise that everyone has the ability and the right to live as independently as they possibly can. Staff assist each individual in working towards their goals and independence by providing medication administration/monitoring and education, skills teaching, assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs-bathing, dressing, eating, etc.), and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs-cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.), and supportive counseling.

Referrals for the adult residential treatment facilities are made by completing a DHHS-Office of Mental Health Services Universal PNMI Referral/Application Form and forwarding it on to the Housing Operations Coordinator at Community Health and Counseling Services. To be eligible for the adult residential treatment facilities, the individual would need to have a major mental health diagnosis, MaineCare, and demonstrate a need for this level of care.  The Mental Health Team Leader from Region III must approve of all admissions.
