HIRING GUIDELINES:

When your resume and/or application is received, it is reviewed by the Human Resources Department and fowarded to the hiring supervisor. If the hiring supervisor is interested in learning more about your qualifications, you be will contacted for a telephone screening or to schedule a personal interview. The hiring supervisor will be seeking the person whose education and experience meet the job requirements; and whose personal attributes are the best match with the program culture and climate.

At the completion of interviews, the hiring supervisor will check at least three references for the person who seems to be the best candidate for the job. It’s important for you to provide names of individuals who have direct knowledge of your professional skills and experience, especially current or previous supervisors. You may know that a company for which you’ve worked has a practice of only confirming employment dates. Your candidacy efforts will be assisted if you make arrangements either for a reference based upon the signed "release from liability" on our application; or if that’s not possible, by providing the hiring supervisor with a copy of your last performance evaluation from that company.

After completing references, hiring supervisors will obtain a salary quote from Human Resources and then make an oral conditional offer to the applicant of choice for the position. If you are the chosen applicant, there are several conditions that will need to be met, depending on the position:
  • Before starting work, you would need to:
    • Have a pre-employment physical exam with one of our occupational health care providers;
    • Provide documentation of immunity to mumps, measles, rubella, chicken pox or have immunizations as part of your pre-employment physical exam;
    • Have the first of two TB tests implanted and then read 48-72 hours later;
    • Provide proof that you have auto liability insurance at the level of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per occurrence.
    • Provide documentation of a Maine professional license if one is required for the position. If you are an out-of-state applicant click here for more information about licensing requirements: www.state.me.us/pfr/olr.
  • Other conditions that must be satisfied generally are not completed until after you start work in conditional status:
    • You will need to have a second TB test implanted and read 48-72 hours later within 21-days of the first TB test. This is necessary to test for false-negative readings in the first test.
    • We will complete a series of background checks, including: Driving Records, Criminal Conviction records, Child and Adult Protective Services clearances, and Medicaid/Medicare Sanctions.
    • If you have a professional license, we will check to ensure that your license is in good standing with the State of Maine.
