"When my wife became ill, I couldn't take care of her and work at the same time. Thank goodness for CHCS' homemaker and home health services. Now I don't have to quit by job and my wife gets the help she needs during her recuperation process "

Home health care can be a welcome alternative to institutional care. By bringing skilled nursing and other health services to the patient at home, it may shorten a hospital stay or may substitute for full-time residence in a nursing or convalescent home. Home health care can be appropriate:
  • When a patient requires a long convalescence with periodic nursing care.
  • When a patient, recovering from a stroke or fracture, needs rehabilitative therapy.
  • When a patient has a chronic illness and respite care will relieve the family from time to time.
  • When a family needs instruction or counseling in health care.
  • When the patient requires complicated procedures such as intravenous therapy or use of respiratory equipment.
  • When a patient with a terminal illness would be happier at home and can be adequately cared for by family members with the aid of a nurse or homemaker at regular intervals.
When a recovering patient lives alone or with an elderly spouse some distance from the outpatient clinic of a hospital. It is important that all participating parties be in full agreement with the care provided in the home. To assure that home health care is appropriate, the home health program checks each referral carefully.
